House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series

A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second show in the franchise, created for HBO by George R.R. Created by Martin and Ryan Condle.

The series is set approximately 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.

The series premiered on August 21, 2022, with a first season of ten episodes. Five days after its premiere, the series was renewed for a second season.

House of the Dragon, based on Martin's book Fire and Blood, was given a straight-to-series order.

Kondal and Miguel Spochnik, were selected to serve as showrunners

Miguel Spochnik will leave the series after its first season, stepping down as director and co-showrunner.

Casey Blois, HBO's president of programming, said the writing process began in January 2020.

The series was filmed primarily in the United Kingdom. Parts of the first season were filmed in Spain and California

According to Variety, each episode of House of the Dragon costs up to $15 million.

Alan Taylor, who directed several Game of Thrones episodes, will join and helm season two.
